REUNION 5/31

Postby JohnTell » Fri Apr 18, 2008 3:44 pm

Just a reminder that the upcoming reunion on 5/31 is not only St. Anthony's 100th anniversary celebration, but it also is a NEIGHBORHOOD reunion...all past and present residents of the old NEIGHBORHOOD are most welcomed and very much encouraged to attend and partake of the festivities...<:~)

This affair promises to be one for the ages, an Archer Street extravaganza that is not to be missed...and if you don't have a good time Eddie Doc and Packy Hanley are offering a 110% money back guarantee (out of their own pockets)...<;~)

As if another incentive was even needed to attend, a surprise mystery guest has been booked and is scheduled to make an appearance...don't even ask, I am not at liberty to reveal the identity of the surprise guest at this point in time ...

As Big John used to say; "Be there or be square"...

I am new to this message board I wanted to ask you do you know Howard and Edna Boer? They Lived in 1534 Beach Avenue then they moved to 1452 Beach Avenue they then moved to Flushing around 1976 but they did come to the Bronx every Saturday to go to Sullivans Bar. I remember Paul O'Brien bartending Saturday afternoons. Your name sounds familiar to me that's why I ask~Thanks Deb

Debra...yes I remember the Boers especially Charlie and Tommy...

As to Sullivans Bar, I have a vague recollection of such an establishment and may have walked past it a time or two...<;~)

Hello again~
The bar I am talking about was across from 1452 Beach Avenue (maybe it was not called Sullivans).
This was in the 70's. Charlie Boer was my grandfathers brother. Thanks for the response.

Something tells me that John Tell, overcome by curiosity, actually entered Sullivan's - but I am sure it was only one occasion!!!!!

Postby Linda Hall » Sat Apr 26, 2008 8:49 pm

Hi Marion,no way do I think those things from the past are not important. Some folks just never saved things..I was lucky like I said my mom did..I did as I got older.Well I am not sure what I have to be honest with ya.I do have to go up and look.Well as far as the mystery guest goes ask Johnny he knows everything, hehheheheeh.Marion now I am doing the Life commercial remember? The brother's were talking about the breakfast and were not sure if they should eat it.Do you remember it?I'm sure you do.Then they say,"give it to Mikey,he eats everything"So what I am saying is ask Johnny he knows everything!lolP.S.John will not budge no clues..I cannot say myself as I am sworn to be quiet..lol O by the way did you check out Matty's site.I know you love all sorts of stories and write some yourself in the paper. So you will enjoy this alot, enjoy.lol Linda :)

HELLO MY DEAR FRIEND LINDA,

It is so good to see you on the site again. You have been off for too long. Well the reunion is a month away. How exciting. Some people actually thought it was "Memorial Day Wkend." I'm so glad that it has been posted which weekend in May, the reunion actually is. i hope everybody is not waiting til the last week to get their tickets. because you want to see who you know, is attending. Are we behaving like we are at a High School Dance? The guys are on the walls & the girls are standing in groups talking amongst themselves. i had spoken to a bunch of people at the Mudbowl & last summer's bbq. I know for a fact that there were some people who swore that they would be attending the reunion. But I don't see their names on the list. Sorry to say that I will not be attending, i have a previous obligation. Someone very dear to me, Patricia Paino-Pristero (1543 Beach) wishes she could attend. But recently had an accident, hurting her leg badly. So she will not be able to attend. So stop procrastinating and order your tickets soon. this time will never come around again. stay safe & happy, old & new friends. m.e.

reunion

Postby Linda Hall » Sun Apr 27, 2008 3:54 am

Hi Marie you are right a long time I have not been on.Well we can get caught up in so many things.Life has a funny way of doing that.I know you yourself realize that.I appreciate your shout as well as your's Marion. It was nice to hear from you both.I know the reunion will be a great success.I think maybe there could be so many reasons for the friends not on the list.I am optimistic that it will increase in numbers as May rolls in thinking about it Marie. So here is to a great turnout.I do not recall seeing any of my school mates on the list.I do however have faith the names will appear. So with that said,I wish you all a great day and the very best always.lol Linda P.S. Wow one hundred yrs.standing that is amazing! :)

Hi Marie-Elena, Linda, and All,

We will be updating the website soon with additional names of people who have signed up for the Reunion. There has been a big increase in ticket requests, some for full tables, and we look forward to a good turnout for the event. While people can pay at the door, it is a more expensive way to go ($125 vs. $100). We encourage everyone who is interested to purchase tickets online or through the mail earlier rather than later so that we can plan appropriately. There are many people working behind the scenes to make this a fantastic night for all.

Some of us went to visit the Mount this weekend. The gym is a great venue for this type of thing and will accommodate a generous dance floor. The band, Stages, will in fact perform on the stage. Some of us have heard this band at the casino at Yonkers Raceway, and they are sensational performing all types of songs. You will not be disappointed. It’s also nice to note that one of the band members, Frankie Truglio, is from our neighborhood and he has told us how much he looks forward to being part of this celebration. Thanks goes out to Jimmy Carolan who had recommended the band. Between the band and a wonderful DJ, Abe Baretto, there will be music for everyone.
Linda, put your dancing shoes on!

We expect the night to be a wonderful opportunity to meet up with friends we may see a few times a year, but also those whom we may not have seen in decades. If you intend to come, please reach out to another old friend who just may need a little bit of encouragement to join in. This truly is a case of the more, the merrier. Now, perhaps there may be a person or two whom you would rather NOT see. No Prob! The gym is large enough that you can easily avoid those people if you chose to, lol. Don’t let something like that keep you from what we hope will turn out to be a neighborhood night to remember.

Marie-Elena, I am so sorry you have vacation plans for the week of the reunion. We will miss you on the dance floor.

If anyone has any questions about the event, please feel free to email me at cath458@aol.com.

Cheers to all.

Cathy

You know the whole reunion seems like a great idea! I have to say when my father went to his reunion at Immaculate Conception some 15 years ago when he came out from the mass his car was stolen. After that he just can't think of going to the reunion for St.Anthonys he his only 68. I have to say its not like it used to be which is really sad! In the 10406 zip there are no 36 child molestors ugh!
