Yesterday I went to a funeral for Paul Mazzie-one of the original “Archer Boys”.
Paul and I were not close friends, mainly due to the fact tat I was 4-5 years younger than he. However, I knew him a long time from the “old neighborhood and from the Archer Boy luncheon. In short, he was a nice guy.
When his son gave a eulogy I knew why I came.
A few things that stand out about Paul:
He served his countryin the Army for a few years .
He was a NY ireman for more than 20 years
He was a good family man and his family was very nice people.
He was a coach of softball teams, including Manhattan College and many local teams in Suffern.
In summary he led a simple life but a good one, and many people came to the wake and the funeral, honoring him as a good friend and associate.
While Paul was younger than “The Greatest Generation” as depicted by Tom Brokaw in his book, he had many traits of them-from a simple background and working to improve himself and his family. I think he falls in that category.
Also, in the last year we lost another Archer Boy-Bill Reilly. He was another nice guy who always had a smile and something nice to say about things.
Both of them will be missed.

Nicely done, Les.

Would that we all could depart having led good and simple lives. Doesn't get any better than that.
